Hair Salon Software
« on: May 25, 2010, 02:26:24 AM »
Hi,

i am web developer and i am making hair salon software. I am not familiar with the salons needs so i need your help. For example i am planning to make a website with domain name and hosting  for each salon - few pages ( about us, news, contact ... ). So every salon will have own web site (if do not have or want better one) and will be included to the catalog of the salons. Please tell me what features you like to see on your salon's site. Also the appointment page - there's 3 options: 1.Users can register and make appointments.  2.They must call and you (the salon stuff) will do that and 3.You will give user name and password to your clients and the next time they can make appointment online. I think the first is not very good because you will get a lot of spam.
The price will be about  50 USD / Month - include professional web site of the salon and the appointment system. What you think ?

Thanks in advice

It could be interesting but it would really depend on the features.  I do not do hair but almost all tanning software is also able to handle hair.  I'll let hair salons chime in what is important for them but currently there are established software for a single price or ongoing fee at or less than $50 per month.  I do like apts online but does this do anything else?  Does it track sales, client marketing, reporting, taxes?

Today, people can host a website for about $5 per month so there needs to be alot of other benefits to justify an extra $540 per year of expenses.

Hello tsnko,

It would be really helpful if you make a salon software.. well the requirements are differ from one salon owner to other.. So you need to ask your client that apart from the common features what extra features he/she would like to have...

Was this custom or was this a generic piece for everyone?  I would love something that interacts better with Quickbooks and exports more details so I can do more reporting in quickbooks

I just saw that sbFirstDay is having a sale through August 15th.  $19.95 for their software and it's a one-time charge.  I bought it several months ago for $49 and I've loved it.   That's just something to consider for your online software project.  Do your best to keep it inexpensive.  Most of us in the hair care business are not "rolling in cash".  I've been at this for a long time and budgeting is key to being successful in this biz.

I imagine your software is going to be multi-user, so that would probably justify the cost.  sbFirstDay is just for solos (like me).

I used to use Kronos.  sbFirstDay is much easier to use for solos.
